Why does my dog breathe fast

First of all, it is normal for a dog to experience shortness of breath after doing a lot of exercise. After all, after you exercise, your breathing rate will increase. In addition, another reason for the dog's shortness of breath is that in the hot summer, because the dog cannot sweat through the sweat glands, the dog's breathing will become rapid, which helps to regulate the body temperature.

If your dog is resting or sleeping, a breathing rate of less than 30 breaths per minute is considered normal. If the breathing rate is higher than 35 times, you may need to pay attention to your dog. Don't hesitate, please send your dog to the vet immediately. Finally, you should learn about other causes of shortness of breath in dogs

1. Food poisoning

When a dog eats a lot of onions or garlics, it will cause your dog to breathe quickly because these foods can cause hemolytic anemia in dogs. At the same time, your dog may also have symptoms such as excessive drooling, vomiting, or diarrhea.

2. Anemia

When your dog loses blood or suffers from certain diseases that cause white blood cells to attack red blood cells, the red blood cells that transport oxygen in the body are too low, so the dog can only increase oxygen content by breathing continuously. Anemia in dogs is often accompanied by symptoms such as weakness, jaundice, pale gums, and lethargy

3. Tracheal collapse

The trachea is a flexible structure that leads to the lungs. However, as the dog gets older, the cartilage of the trachea gradually loses its rigidity and slowly begins to become flat, resulting in less air circulation. Just like a straw, if you flatten the straw, it will be very difficult for you to use the straw to suck things.

4. Stress and anxiety

Shortness of breath may also indicate that the dog is stressed. However, not all dogs with shortness of breath are anxious. A dog suffering from anxiety may also have signs, including licking lips, lack of concentration, etc.
